Congratulations to Alice Young who was selected for the 2021 Smokey Award which is given each year to the person who has contributed in an extra way to the Band.
Alice is a hard working, multi-talented member who plays the C Part of our melodies, as well as contributing her Soprano voice on some of our vocals.
Current DBB Players Teri Ann Rogers and Bill Cude (center and right) joined another of Scott's students to perform one of Scott's original tunes as part of the induction ceremony.
American Banjo Museum, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The very first inductee into their Hall of Fame was none other than Smokey Montgomery, who founded the Dallas Banjo Band in 1989
Scott Whitfield, an Internationally famous Banjoist, and a local Dallas Teaching Musician, accepts the 2021 award.
Scott has had many members of the DBB as students, as well as probably thousands of other students.
Scott has maintained his relationship with the DBB through the years, serving as both a consultant and an occasional participant at some of our gigs.
Deserved congratulations, Scott !
DBB MEMBERS PARTICIPATE IN AN INTERNATIONAL BANJO COLLAGE-
In alphabetical order: Bill Cude, Jack Pavuk, Harold Poole, And Teri Ann Rogers played Shostakovich's Second Waltz "virtually" in an Internationa Banjo Orchestra Zoom session. The DBB provided the original arrangement to Steve Caddick, a memberof the Banjo Hall of Fame, for modifying the arrangement for the multiple, worldwide participants.
The same waltz was added earlier to the DBB song list, and can be heard live at our performances
While we're all restricted to our homes, the Band has a weekly ZOOM session on the Internet (as shown in the image above) where we can see each other and exchange ideas, etc.
We've discussed a remote possibility of our next Free Show at the BBQ being July 4, 2020. We will keep everyone advised if this bears fruitiion.
Take some time to look at the "Print Media" dropdown under the "Sample Media" page in the Menu. There are two very interesting magazine articles about "1- The Dallas Banjo Band history, and 2- HowTamora Wood, a classical opera star, found her way into the world of Banjos and is a very talented member of our Band.
